The Galactic Credit is a universal, well-established currency devised as not only a means of barter, but also a medium to compare other monetary systems to to more accurately ascertain their true value when trading. The Intergalactic Trade Commision is a nonprofit, non-biased organization that establishes the worth of foreign currency relative to the credit based on inflation and internal market flunctuations. On occasion the ITC may deem a monetary system inadequate for galactic trade, in which case the user(s) of it will be forced to take up the Credit as their currency (which is recommended, even if an empire's economy is strong as an ox), or face an embargo that could be detrimental to an early civilization's finances.
